Required Materials
Software Requirements
Dreamweaver CS5. This class explores many new features of CS5. CS4 will not work for many projects in this class. You can purchase or upgrade to Dreamweaver CS5 at the Santa Rosa Junior College bookstore. You can also use Dreamweaver CS5 in the Santa Rosa Junior Collge Computer Labs. In addition, you should use a modern browser with
debugging capabilities, such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox with Firebug and the DOM Inspector plugins. In addition, we will be using the free version of MySQL Workbench to develop our database, please download and install it.
A webserver account with FTP access, Apache webserver, php, MySQL and the Zend framework (Zend is also included in the CD with the textbook). I strongly recommend using the Santa Rosa Junior College Computer Studies Department free Linux-based webserver account – apply for an account here. If you already have an SRJC Linux account, make sure you have your FTP password for the first class. Here is more information about your account.

Tests and Quizzes
There will be four online quizzes throughout the course and an online midterm and final exam. The material comes from the class textbook, lectures and supplemental materials such as published class notes or blogs. If any exam is missed, a zero will be recorded as the score. It is your responsibility to take the online exams by the due date.
Projects
You must submit ten complete projects throughout the semester.
There are twelve project tutorials assigned throughout the semester and your projects could be based on these examples or on others as pre-approved by the instructor. You are required to maintain a website to publish and document your projects. Your site can be hosted at your own private domain or at Santa Rosa Junior College, which offers students free web hosting services. Your site for this semester should be in a folder under public_html as a separate subdomain.
Late Projects
Projects are late if not submitted by Sunday at midnight following the class that the assignment is due. Late assignments can be submitted (or resubmitted with instructors consent) for 83.3% credit up to one week after the due date. Any assignments turned in more than two week late will receive no credit.
Credit-No Credit
You may take this class credit/no-credit. You must decide before the fifth class and file the appropriate form with Admissions and Records. You must complete the midterm and final quizzes and projects to receive class credit.
Dropping the Class
If you decide to discontinue this course, it is your responsibility to officially drop it to avoid getting no refund (after 10% of course length), a W symbol (after 20%), or a grade (after 60%). Also, for several consecutive, unexplained absences, the instructor may drop a student.
Standards of Conduct
Students shall conduct themselves in a manner that reflects their awareness of common standards of decency and the rights of others. Interference with SRJC’s educational objectives is a cause for disciplinary action. All members of the college community are expected to refrain from such interference, including the following types of conduct:
- Disruption of teaching
- Dishonesty, cheating, plagiarism
- Physical or verbal abuse
- Disorderly, lewd, indecent, or obscene conduct
Email Etiquette
Here is a list of some basic guidelines for using the class forum or emailing directly to the instructor or a classmate:
- Email can easily be misinterpreted; be brief, polite, never send email when angry.
- Always include a pertinent subject title for the message.
- Capitalize words only to highlight an important point or to distinguish a title or heading. Capitalizing whole words is termed as SHOUTING!
- It is rude to forward personal email without the author’s permission

Hi, I was wondering if there is a place we can go to see what is due for each week? I’m getting a little lost in the blog as to what is actually due?

Each Thursday there will be a post named “Weekly Recap for January 20″ (or whatever that Thursday’s date is). These posts will be the only posts tagged as “Recap” and each will include an outline of the lecture notes for that day, and a list of the assignments for that week with due dates and links where applicable to exams, etc. Your projects should all be linked from your main page, so there is no need to ‘hand anything in’, just publish your project page by the due date.
Where can we see the pages of other students in this class? Is there a page with links to all of the students’ sites?
You can see the student gallery from any page on this blog – it is in the right sidebar under Student Gallery. I am adding names as assignment 1 is submitted.
